Governor Thomas Johnson High School Band Booster General Meeting Minutes

General Band Booster Meeting --- December 14, 2011

In Attendance: Doug Brown, Dean Kirschling, Andy Hogan, Betty Ludwig, Kathy Schiller, Christy Caulfield, Nancy Voell, Susan Brown, Laura Hogan, Lisa Wrzesinski, Bill Smith, Peggy Landis, Jeff Landis, Terri Kieft, Kathy Hilton

The meeting was called to order by Doug Brown at 7:30. A motion was made by Kathy Schiller to approve the minutes from the November meeting. It was seconded by Dean Kirschling and approved unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report: Betty Ludwig reported that the account balance as of November 1st was $28,026.73. Income received was $31,605.66 and the expenses incurred were $25,269.63. This left a balance as of November 30th of $34,362.76. The money for those who worked the Keys games had finally come through and been deposited into the students’ accounts accordingly. The Wreath and Poinsettia Sale grossed $6,000. The final net figure will be available later. Our Homecoming Festival brought in $600. The Breakfast With Santa grossed $2,029. Once all receipts are in, we should see a profit of about $1,100. Thank you to Kathy Schiller for coordinating and running the event again this year. New cummerbunds and bow ties were purchased for the concert band which will cost about $900.

Fundraising: Peggy Landis reported that candy bars would be available to start selling on Monday, December 19th. She currently has 31 boxes.

Pit Crew: Andy Hogan stated that there will be a Pit Crew dinner on Wednesday, January 18th at Mexicali Cantina.

Props: Dean Kirschling stated that the chairs used in the show this season can be purchased for $25 each, without the wheels. Please get in touch with him if you are interested.

Grants: Betty Ludwig reported that the Community Foundation awarded us a grant for $1,512 which will be used to purchase sheet music. Thank you to Vicki Smith who worked on getting all of the paperwork together. Mrs. Caulfield has applied for the Grammy Signature School grant which is awarded to a needy school. Instruments were targeted as the primary need. We are a semifinalist, one of 120-125 schools, and should hear in January as to whether or not we will receive a grant of approximately $5,500.

Student Accounts: Laura Hogan stated that there is no new information at this time. Accounts are looking fairly healthy.

End of Year Banquet: Susan Brown is requesting the use of the Lewistown Fire Hall once again. The date is May 24th.

Director’s Report: Christy Caulfield thanked everyone for a great, and long, marching season. She congratulated the percussion section on a wonderful concert and wishes everyone a Happy Holiday Season!

The Feeder Pattern Concert will be held on Thursday, January 5th. Andy Hogan will assist with coordinating volunteers. We will use the balcony for guests this year and move the students down to the front. As the doors will not be opened until 6:30p, it is important to somehow corral the guests either in the cafeteria or some kind of line formation. No 4th graders will be included this year in the concert.

Thank you to the Band Boosters for the purchase of the new floor for the indoor season. Mrs. Ralston will be helping to paint it and Mrs. Zimnick will be taking care of the flags. The junior color guard is rolling along nicely.

At this time, small groups of high school students are visiting the middle schools to help with recruitment. At least a dozen students are working with the students at Monocacy and TJ Middle Schools. The Feeder Concert is a great source for recruiting.

A motion was made by Peggy Landis to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded by Dean Kirschling and unanimously approved.

The meeting ended at 8:00p

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Schiller
