Governor Thomas Johnson High School Band Booster General Meeting Minutes

General Band Booster Meeting --- May 12, 2010

Meeting convened at 7:02 pm by president, Mike Hillman. In attendance: Carrie Kurdt, Kathy Sheehy, Nick Hilton, Kathy Hilton, Dean Kirschling, Andy Hogan, tom Kurdt, Mary Semler, Debby Scheffel, Betty Ludwig, Jean Wright, Nancy Voell, Chris Voell, Doug Brown, Vicki Smith, Sue Fowle, Mark Weitzel, Camille Weitzel, Maggi Gasemy, Terri Kieft, Trish Kalinyak, Kathy Schiller, Diane Travis, Mr. Kibbler and Mrs. Caulfield.

Top 10 list of things Mike has enjoyed during his tenure with the TJ Band.

Minutes from April were posted to the web-site. Minutes were accepted as posted. There was no treasurer’s report. The final uniform payment is coming due this summer.

Student account treasurer has nothing to report.

The practice field repairs are being discussed with the sports boosters again. We are looking at a site plan.

Doug reported on the “Rubber Duck Derby”. We would hold it at Carroll Creek, perhaps June 19th or July 24th. The ducks would sell for $10 a piece and the hope is that each student could sell 10 tickets. The top 3 spots would win cash prizes. The funds would all go into the capital account to cover the final uniform payment.

The band banquet is tomorrow night at 6:30 at the Lewistown Fire Hall. We currently have 260 people attending. Band jackets will be sold there for $50.

Graduation is the 24th and Tom still needs a couple of people to help. The report time will be 4:30 and the bus will leave around 5:15 and return around 9:30.

Mandatory parent meeting is May 26th for the upcoming marching season.

The band fees for this year are the same as last year with the exception of the Indianapolis trip added on for a total of $650 plus whatever the trip cost will be. Right now we believe we are looking at $300-$350 for the trip; making the entire fee, with trip, $950 - $1000. The monthly payments will range from $150 - $200 and will start in June and end in October.

Chris Voell thanked everyone who helped make the Spaghetti Dinner/Jazz Night work. It was very successful and should show a profit.

The slate of officers for next year is: Doug Brown in running for President, Dean Kirschling for 1st Vice President; Andy Hogan as 2nd Vice President/Account Treasurer, Betty Ludwig as Treasurer and Cathy Schiller will run as Secretary. Mike invited comments and Doug took the opportunity to let people know that while everyone is busy, these jobs are important and when we all pull together it makes it that much easier.
Andy seconded Doug’s statement that we need everyone to pull together. As everyone is voting unopposed, Mike moved that we vote the board in by voice acclimation. Vicki seconded and the motion was approved by the boosters at large. Mike then moved that we accept the board as proposed, Kathy Sheehy seconded and the board was approved by voice vote.

Mike thanked his current board and other chairs for the on-going help over the last years.

Chris asked how much in the hole we are for the uniforms. The answer is somewhere in the $2,000 - $5,000 range is still needed. Mrs. Caulfield noted that she really doesn’t like the fact that students have to pay to participate in marching band. She would like to see us stage events that will raise large amounts of money to offset the overall band fee. There was extended discussion regarding the funds from the Board of Education and what can be done to get the message out that the music programs are as worthy of financial support as are the sports uniforms.

Meeting adjourned at 8:01 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Carrie Kurdt - Secretary
