Governor Thomas Johnson High School Band Booster General Meeting Minutes

General Band Booster Meeting --- January 13, 2010

Meeting convened at 7:03pm by president, Mike Hillman.

Mike gave the top 10 list that was geared to the feeder pattern concert. The list was the top-10 things to love about the Gov TJ High School Band and Chorus.

Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as posted on the band web-site.

Treasurer’s report: 12-1/12-31 student 38255.01, gen 11630.49 unif 57,092.98 18,768.56 income and 11,089.50 gen total expenses 7,809.05 net income 12,153.30
Ending stud gen unif

Student Account report: Andy Hogan has statements and will hand them out. If you have questions about your account, it may be that things in the mail have not been posted to your student’s account yet.

Fundraising Report: Breakfast w/Santa went really well last month. We made 1528.31 minus the expenses. This month we have the recruitment/feeder school concert. We also have the indoor show coming up in March. In Feb. we’ll have the chocolate covered strawberry sale and we’ll have breakfast with the Easter Bunny. We still have some blankets around that we can try to sell in the upcoming months. A few items from the past that we could resurrect would be the restaurant fund raisers, a 5K race and/or a basket bingo. USSBA is sponsoring a 5k in the Rockville area that we could join in. Middletown offered to co-host a USSBA show with us. Feeder concert will be held next Thursday, the 21 st. This is not so much a fundraiser as an effort to interest people in our programs. The indoor guard/percussion show is on Saturday, March 6 th. We have 34 groups signed up at this point. A Battle of the Bands is scheduled for April 15 th.

The cell tower money is cleared through the Historical Society and we should have money by the end of June.

Trish thanked Terri for helping with all of the uniform measurements. Mrs. Caulfield brought in the new uniform to show the group. The effect will be to make the band appear taller and leaner. The bulk of the money was spent on jackets because the pants are easier to fit. The contract allows for delivery of the uniforms by March 22 nd. After we have some funds built up again, we will invest in raincoats for the uniforms.

Props Committee: A few of the guys got together this past Saturday to work on guard props. They built 4 and now they need 8 more.

Trip Report: Disney trip is moving along. Everything is going smoothly. Terri has forms available to pick up this evening. There are many January payments missing. If it is coming out of your student account, you need to let Terri and Laura know that. They will not assume that someone wants to take money out of their account. March 3 rd is a mandatory trip meeting. If your student is going on the trip, you must attend this meeting. Kids and parents both need to be there.

An e-mail was sent out regarding out-of-district transfers. There will be a meeting about that after this meeting.

The school board is in budget negotiations right now. We don’t want them to cut anything from the music program. Mike has set up a meeting with the other band booster presidents to discuss what we can do as a grass roots effort to prevent cuts from the program. We will need to be a squeaky wheel but we will also know what buttons to push.

Mrs. Caulfield: Thanked everyone for coming to the concert last week. She feels it was one of our best concerts ever. Next Thursday is the recruitment concert and the following Tuesday is the start of the Jazz Band. Closer to March, we will start to hold “Master Classes”. This will bring 8 th graders in during March to help them start playing at the higher musical level. Indoor guard/percussion is in full swing. It is based around the cell phone. Indoor guard is not really a theme so much as just really cool music and spinning. They have the KIDA preview show on the 23 rd. She thanked everyone for their time, energy and efforts in making this program work. There is a video of the show available.

Mike thanked Jen Baker as treasurer, Tom and Dennis for helping with the Disney trip. A special thanks to Terri who is handling the forms and the money and so much more. He thanked Doug and Susan for candy bar sales, Tom, Ben and Laura and Andy for student accounts, Chris Voell for stepping up for the feeder pattern concert and indoor show, Jen Bruce and Amelia for Breakfast with Santa. Everyone who helped out with concert uniforms.

Meeting adjourned at 8:01pm.

Respectfully submitted,
