Governor Thomas Johnson High School Band Booster General Meeting Minutes
General Band Booster Meeting --- January 14, 2009
Meeting convened at 7:00. In attendance: Sue Fowle, Mike Hillman, Kathi Groover, Tom Kurdt, Andy Hogan, Laura Hogan, Ginger Reece, Trish Colwell, Mike Colwell, Susan Brown, Amelia Ecker, Debby Scheffel, Betty Ludwig, Nick Hilton, Kathy Hilton, Jen Baker, Bruce Baker, Trish Kalinyak.
Dennis welcomed all into 2009. Minutes from Nov 08 and Dec 08 are posted on the web site.
Treasurer’s report: for the month of Nov, the student account had 9,016.78, the general account had 12,460.48 and the capital account had 4,492.37 ($15,000) has been put into a higher interest bearing CD. Amelia will send most recent information to Carrie to post to the group.
The annual responsibility to elect new officers for the 2009-2010 school year is upon us. Dennis requested volunteers for a committee to help recruit nominees.
Keys committee reported that we are being offered the old “Foul Ball Franks” stand. This stand offers a minimum income of $150 per game, the stand will not close, it will require 10 people to staff and only 3 of those people need to be 18. So over 50% of the required staff can be staffed by students. Carrie moved that we go ahead and staff this stand, Bruce Baker seconded. There was discussion regarding how we are going to be able to staff the stand. We believe that the lower number of people required as well as the fact that we can use more students will open it up to more people who are willing to work and can work. Inventory requirements will remain the same as last year. Carrie will come in to talk to the students to enlist their participation. Linda Norris volunteered to schedule. The vote was to go ahead and take this stand. Dennis thanked the committee for their work.
In-door show is coming up on 3/14/2009. We’ll need a lot of help to put the show on. We already have more groups signed up than we have had in the past. Our reputation has been good and is helping us draw more competitors. We will need chairs for the usual line up of committees, food, tickets, parking lot, hosts, etc.
Fundraising committee reports that Battle of the Band date has been changed. The Battle of the Bands will be high school students who have a “rock and roll” band to compete. We’re trying to keep the competitors to FCPS students. In-door show forms are being passed out, ads are a good fundraiser. If you receive an ad through e-mail, make sure it is sent in jpg format. Breakfast with the bunny will be held on March 28 th. We’ll have an Easter egg hunt. Increase the price by $3.00 for the breakfast meal. Candy sale is going through March. We are out of candy right now, but will be purchasing more soon. It should be here by next week. It would be best for the students to turn in the money from previous boxes before they get new ones. They make $32/box. Some of the students are selling multiple boxes per week. Please remind them to put their names on the envelopes before they turn them in. Make sure the students count the money to be sure they are turning in the $52.00 owed. Darlene Bry will be coordinating the Joe Corbi’s pizza sale. We’ll be doing another gas card raffle starting in March. Valentine grams will be held in February. The Breakfast with Santa totals are not in yet. The Wal-Mart raffle sold $3250.86. We made $1,188.00. Trish sold 33 Christmas blocks. Kids and uniform fund benefited from those sales. Poinsettia sales netted $345.00.
Pit crew moved the storage container. We found out that we can put in a request to the FCPS maintenance people and they will work on our tractors. The school was broken in to. Some items were taken and there was some water damage. The sea container was moved to be sure that it cannot be used as a method of getting into the school.
Boston trip is going. Second payment was due this past Friday. Send money in if you have not already done so. We still have space for 13 people on the trip. Mike will be talking to the trip coordinator from Kewl soon.
Mrs. Caulfield did not have a lot to report. The end of the month is the All-County Band weekend. It will be hosted here. We will need a couple of parents to sell tickets; we get paid to do that. The first in-door show is at Linganore the first weekend of February.
Tom inquired about when we can approach in-coming freshmen parents to start working on fundraisers, specifically the Keys Stadium. The first parent meeting for in-coming freshmen is at the end of April. Tom suggested that the letter that goes out to tell about the meeting should delineate the fundraiser opportunities.
Meeting adjourned at 7:40.
Respectfully submitted, Carrie Kurdt Secretary
