Band Booster Meeting –  November 14,2007

Meeting convened at 7:05. 35 people in attendance.

Minutes of previous meeting were posted on the web site and were approved as written.

Miss Hopkins: Our championship banners will be moved and displayed in the gym. The band went from finishing 10 th place last year to 6 th place this year. The director of the Musselman band sent an email with some wonderful comments about the band.

A huge thanks to the uniform committee, pit crew, fundraising committee, chaperones and everyone else who worked for the band this year. “It can’t be done without you.”

Report time for this Saturday (11/17) is 8:30. We should be home by 6:30PM.

We may have a buyer for the columns.

Sang Happy Birthday to Susan Roper and passed out cake.

Mike Hillman – treasurer: $33,652.93 income, $16,618.74 expenses last month. Band Festival netted a profit of $6,220.70.

Louise Shipley – Student Accounts: the accounts are up-to-date with the exception of the Gas card raffle.

Colorfest was profitable this year. Each per person shift earned $51. This is reflected in the students’ accounts. Louise suggested that we purchase a banner for Randy Bartlett (Highland Concession) as thanks for all that he has done for the band.

To date, fundraising has brought in approximately $16,000.

Bruce Baker reported that the gas card raffle had a profit of $1,135. The winning ticket was sold by Lee Bry. Most tickets (116) sold by Lori Alshire.

Halloween Trunk or Treating was a huge success, had in the vicinity of 40 cars. Many thanks to Carrie Kurdt for organizing this.

Yankee Candle order has arrived, is in the back of Laura Hogan’s car.

Fundraising: we will be having a soda sale (by the case). Tentatively coordinating a dance. Candy sale – specifics TBA. Wreaths & poinsettias go on sale this week. There is $734 in the scholarship fund. Breakfast with Santa is scheduled for Dec 15. Appleby’s breakfast is scheduled for some time in January. Glory Days runs until the end of this month as does the Ben & Jerry’s promotion. Jean Spencer and Miss Hopkins to meet regarding the alumni mailing.

Uniforms: an incentive program was started to make sure that uniforms are hung correctly on the coat hangers. Students name are entered into a drawing, the winner gets a Starbucks gift card.

The annual pit crew dinner is Wednesday November 28 at Mexicali Cantina, please RSVP to Tom Kurdt.

Special Events: The band ate very well last Saturday. Senior night went well.

Mike Hillman is the trip coordinator for the March trip to New York. The band will be marching in the Saint Patrick’s Day parade (Mar 17). Flyers have been sent home. Non-refundable deposit is due Nov 30. The price appears expensive; NYC is an expensive city and there are a number of activities included in the price. Mike will check into the possibility of non-chaperoning parents/family paying & joining in with the activities. This will not include the dance and awards for the parade.

Turf fields: Dennis has been in contact with Michelle Hunt, Athletic Boosters president. We have learned that Middletown and Walkersville have been approved for field improvements.

Mr. Kibler: in favor of TJ field improvement, but would like to do the entire package → fields, stadium, field house, concession stands, etc. He has checked into a fundraising company that handles the entire process for 1%-2% of the project amount. FCPS does not fund any of the improvements, all community funded with naming rights. Must raise 100% of the needed monies before the project can start. The project must be approved; safety and health concerns will be the justifications. North Hagerstown recently completed theirs. See mikecallasstadium.com for their information.

March 15 is the Indoor Guard show that we will be hosting. We hope to have an evening show this year. Meetings will start soon.

Door prize drawing – Jen Baker won.

Meeting adjourned at 8:05.

Respectfully submitted,

Sue Fowle
Substitute Secretary
