Prior month’s approved minutes

Band Booster Meeting –  October 10,2007

Meeting convened at 7:06. Meeting was led by Don Hamm. Dennis left an agenda. 30 people in attendance.

Minutes of previous meeting were posted on the web site and were approved as written.

Mike Hillman, treasurer income 25,954.96. Our expenses were 8,513.00. Total left is 17,441.96. We are a tax exempt organization. If we buy something for the band for use, we can use tax exempt, if we buy it to re-sell, we cannot use tax exempt. There are some exceptions to this but Mike will address individual questions.

Louise Shipley student accounts march-a-thon and yankee candle are in. The accounts should be pretty up to date. Cookie dough and color fest money are still coming. Directions to the color fest location will be sent out. One more payment is due for rookies. Old timers were paid up on Oct. 1st. New comers will be done Nov. 1st.

Fundraiser - March-a-thon made 7,018.00 And we have 185 in outstanding pledges.
The county band festival still needs volunteer help. Please contact Jean Spencer. Uncle Ralph's Cookie dough was due Monday, we have to place orders this Monday. Gas card raffle is still going until Nov. 2nd. Sub order forms are out again and are due back on October 20th. There are tickets available from Bruce for a door prize. Trish has collected $1,000 from banners. We made 1,570 on yankee candles.

Ms. Hopkins for news and updates. The next few weeks are going to be really jam packed. Thanked everyone for flexibility with schedules. BOA regional on 10/20. The report time is 6 am. We perform at 9:30 am for pre-lims. They go from 9 am to 4 pm. After we perform at 9:30 we're going to Perry Hall High School to rehearse. We will do the award ceremony with drum majors only at 4 pm. If we make finals, we will decide if we are staying in uniform or not. Either way we are going back to watch the other bands. We don't know if we have any tickets for BOA. BOA is the largest marching band organization. Is there a way we can have a phone tree to find out if we make finals? The kids can call parents and let them know. The kids will be fed. BOA is very strict and specific about how they run things. We'll see Redland, Calvert Hall and Cedar Cliff. We could be competing against bands as big as 300 students. We have a football game the night before BOA. Please have kids come home and go to bed after the game. The judging at BOA is based a lot on general effect. Westminster won regionals a couple of years ago. Our next booster meeting is right before we go to ACC's. There will be a 3rd parent bus going up this year. ACC's are Saturday evening for us. The ACC bus fee for students will be around $30.00. This is because we have to take charter buses.

New York trip report. We are planning to go to New York. We'll be using Kewl Tours. We're working out options with Kewl. Breakfast every day, dinner at Planet Hollywood…… We'll be spending 4 days, 3 nights. We don't have a final cost yet, Mike hopes to have a letter out in the next week or so. The dates are March 16th - 19th. Is there going to be an offering for parents who want to come but not as chaperones. The parade may be broadcast on NBC. This trip will cost more than the Williamsburg trip so fundraising committee is working on as many things as possible.

Uniform committee - Amazing!!! They are ironing, sewing, trimming, and chatting. Mrs. Hogan has spent the last week and a half making sure guard uniforms are completed. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful group of people working on this committee.

Pit crew - Time, rules state you can enter the perimeter of the field where ever you want. Time does not start until you cross the perimeter. The time was started early when we cross the goal line, not the perimeter. Tom has ordered a stop watch so we can be timing every thing. To all pit crew people, please reply about this weekend. He's worried about not having enough people what with color fest and all.

Jean has volunteer hour forms. Please take one and fill out the time you are contributing to the band.

3 reminders are: Bob Fowle doing color fest 13th and 14th. Slots are left Saturday afternoon.

Festival meeting on the 15th, and event on the 17th.

Wreaths are starting end of October, breakfast with Santa in December. Glory Days Grill receipts are being collected. It has to be the food bill, not the credit card receipt. Go to Ben & Jerry's to support the TJ Band Sundae. If your name is not on the list for county festival, e-mail or contact Jean to get your name on the list.

Door prize drawing - Don Hamm won.

Meeting adjourned at 8:02.

Respectfully submitted,

Carrie Kurdt
Secretary
